first visit to buy coins in person

First visit to a coin shop today. actually its a jewelry shop that advertised coins on the sign. dropped in on a fluke. tried to sell me some 1/10 oz GAE for $70, I declined. He had a bunch of peace dollars, one morgan, and three SAE proofs.

I bought the best looking SAE proof in mint box, and the best peace dollar and the morgan. SAE proof was 26, the silver dollars 15 per. These prices were in the ballpark, if not good, and no sales tax or s/h and all that jive,.

So considering that I spent a total of 10 minutes and 56 only only in there I was rather satisfied.

Hey, Anty Ep:

Congratulations!! Is this the beginning of an addiction? It starts off innocently enough.

What year(s) are the SAE, Morgan and Peace Dollars?

01 sae
22 peace
21 morgan

I just looked through the book and they seem authentic

the peace has nice luster and eye appeal, light friction, pretty good relief on everything, but on the face there is a big and unsightly scratch about 5 ml long.

the morgan has more wear, good luster but not nice, fewer scratches and a very light and attractive toning around the circumference.

I went to a coin store for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I decided that I wasn't going to buy anything from China this Christmas. So for gifts I bought a morgan dollar and a silver maple. Had to pay tax on both of them.

Then I went to another coin store. Their price was right on rounds, $13.85 but they wanted 7.5% sales tax. That came to $104 for a hundred of them. I said no thanks. Theres no way I'm giving the state $104 in tax.

At $624 gold (12-14-06)....$70 for a 1/10 oz GAE is really not that bad. The fractionals get hefty in premiums at times. :wavey:

Hey, Anty Ep:

Beautiful coins. It sounds like the 1922 Peace Dollar is in Mint State condition. When you rotate the coin do you see cartwheeling? If you don't know what that means, rotate the coin and if it is still mintstate you will see what I mean.

The Morgan is definitely circulated, but sounds beautiful none the less.

What are the mint marks? For the Peace Dollar look on the reverse by the eagle's tail feathers. Philly has no mint mark and Denver has a "D" and San Fran a "S".

Also common date Morgan and Peace dollars, to the best of my knowledge, have not been forged in any way. At this time they are not worth the cost in silver to counterfeit. There are some key date Morgans that are worth it, especially when they for $300k and up. About the only Peace dollar worth counterfeiting is the 1928 Peace dollar in high mint state and a 1992 matte finish peace dollar.

Move to Delaware, no state tax and the property taxes are incredibly low, too. For example on my house and land my YEARLY tax bill broke $1000 for the first time.

wow.....my property tax (ohio) went from $3800 to $4600 doto a school levy the locals passed. I contacted a lawyer about selling my house. Looks like his fee will be $650-850 and the escrow will be $2500. So, I'll start showing it in a few weeks.

The first thing these lawyers ask is: 'do you have septic?' It's costing those with septic, $20,000 to 30,000 to have it upgraded. I finally catch a break, I have sewers. 'Nice break' = sewers cost $636/year just to use them. I can't wait to get out of here. Sorry for all the thread drift.....

Wow, 20K to upgrade from septic to sewer. It only costs around $5k to that here, and is around $600. It sounds like homeowners with septic only need to upgrade when the house is sold. Same here, but only if sewer is available. The only time a seller is forced to upgrade would be from a cess pool drainage system to a more modern septic system, around $3k to do so.

Sorry, Anty Ep for continuing the drift. I'm done now.

I'll eyeball em this weekend.

As for 70 for the GAEs, it was a good price I thought but I only had about 60 in frns burning a hole in my pocketses as gollum would say. and I wasnt in the mood for plastic. lol

plus I think gold is going to back off its price by 10-30 per oz in the next couple months so I'm holding for now.

No sales tax on coins or bullion here. The shop that I drop into most often is a Pawn shop with a pretty good selection. Ironically, the Pawn Shop is located right across the street from a Ferrari and Maserati dealership.

I guess you need a little help for those $500 oil changes and $2,500 brake jobs.

nah, I dont see what youre talkin bout. I just see a bunch of little scratches I didnt see looking at it directly.

It's AU at best, probably lower than that. Too many scratches is the problem. Nice coin, but scratchy.

No D or S, must be a Philly.
